چکیده

For the study of cerebral hemodynamics in patients with multiple occlusive or stenotic lesions of the internal carotid artery (lCA) and vertebral/basilar artery (VA/BA), six male patients (mean aged 62.5 years) were examined by regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF; Fg: intravenous bolus injection of Xe 133). The highest rCBF(73.3 ± l6.l(SD)m2/100g/min) was observed in two patients with stenosis of the VA and biiaterallCAs and the lowest rCBF(47.l ± 5.9), in patients with severe stenosis of the BA including unilateral occlusion or stenosis of the VA and ICA. Intermediate rCBF (56.1 ± 10.0) was found in patients with occlusion of the VA and occlusion or stenosis of the bilateral ICAs. Among them lesions without VA-occlusion and BA-stenosis were important in keeping rCBF high.

Diffusion-weighted imaging in stroke attributable to internal carotid artery dissection: the significance of vessel patency.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In stroke attributable to spontaneous dissection of the internal carotid artery (sICAD), arterial patency may influence the pattern and extent of cerebral ischemia. METHODS In 40 consecutive patients with stroke caused by sICAD, we compared the number, size and pattern of cerebral diffusion-weighted imaging lesions between patients with stenotic sICAD (n=15) and occlusi...

Long-term follow-up of asymptomatic patients with major artery occlusion: rate of symptomatic change and evaluation of cerebral hemodynamics.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The natural history of asymptomatic major cerebral artery occlusive disease is unclear. Rate of symptomatic change, appearance of new lesions on MR images, and cerebral hemodynamics were analyzed for patients with asymptomatic major cerebral artery occlusion. METHODS This prospective study included asymptomatic patients who had occlusive disease between 1992 and 1995. M...

Thermography in occlusive cerebrovascular diseases.

Cooling of the skin over the medial supraorbital region in 80% of patients who have an occlusion or severe stenosis of a carotid artery can be demonstrated by facial thermography. Minor stenotic lesions in the carotid arteries do not produce characteristic thermographic changes, while thermography is of no help in the diagnosis of vertebrobasilar arterial disease.Thermographic changes suggestiv...

Short-term arteriographic and clinical outcome after cerebral angioplasty and stenting for intracranial vertebrobasilar and carotid atherosclerotic occlusive disease.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The safe performance of percutaneous transluminal cerebral angioplasty for intracranial atherosclerotic lesions requires that the risk of complications, such as acute occlusion or symptomatic dissection, and restenosis be reduced. Our purpose was to assess the effectiveness, safety, and short-term arteriographic and clinical outcome of cerebral angioplasty and stenting (C...

Cerebral hemodynamic in patients with major β-Thalassemia using transcranial Doppler sonography

Background: β-thalassemia, a severe form of anemia, is an inherited blood disorder characterized by growth retardation, splenomegaly, and bone abnormalities. Complications related to treatment-induced iron overload also affect the quality of life of patients with major β-thalassemia. Some recent studies indicated cerebral hemodynamic disorders and increased risk of stroke in these patients. The...
